GMB RACE Presents STEP FORWARD YOUTH: A film night, panel discussion + Q&A
With guest speakers: MENELIK SHABAZZ [ Filmmaker & Director of "Step Forward Youth" ] MAZ SALEEM [ Stand Up To Racism ] KAYZA ROSE [ BlackOutLDN ] AMARJITE SINGH [ CWU / Sikhs Against the EDL ] S. CHELVAN [ "I am an Immigrant" campaign ] –– The event will begin with a screening of ground breaking 1977 documentary film "Step Forward Youth", which explores the experiences of young black people in Brixton at the time. This will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session. Our panelists are fantastic speakers who themselves are BAME community heroes/heroines who fight to eradicate racism everywhere. There will be a time for reflection and networking after, with culturally inspired food and refreshments including: - Granny's Fried Dumplings / Bakes! - Mum's Fish Fritters / Aqua! - Lorna's Jerk chicken - Omatayo's jollof rice In addition to the above there will be an art exhibition on display curated by Zita Holbourne, a campaigner, trade unionist, spoken artist and co-founder of BARAC. Her exhibition is titled “Roots, Culture & Identity" and will include artwork from young people. This will be on display in the reception area at our National Office from 28th September 2015 until 8th November 2015. –– PLEASE NOTE: 18:15 - Arrival 18:30 - Seating 18:45 - Film starts This event is FREE ENTRY.
