BlackOutLDN is going to be a peaceful, static protest against the collective and systemic unlawful arrests and killings/attacks of black people in America.
Multiple BlackOut protests and marches will be taking place simultaneously all over the U.S, and here in London supporters from all over the UK will be showing solidarity.
With the recent death of Sandra Bland which echoes countless encounters of police brutality, the burning of black churches, and other racially motivated attacks against black Americans, it is important that we make it known that we will not stand by as blacks continue to be targeted and murdered.
Across this country and in the U.S, black bodies are marked as dangerous and because of this are not only brutalized and murdered, but the murders justified. The media shows more humanity to painting the killers in positive light than it does when it dehumanizes and vilifies the victims.
Black Americans are standing up for the right to be black in America, to seek merely to exist without threat, to be allowed to thrive without the fear of brutality.
This will be a PEACEFUL protest. We in the UK are not here at this specific time to rage against our own government - we are here to show our support and solidarity to our American counterparts.
EVERYONE is welcome, the presence of each and every individual will be greatly appreciated.
There will be vigils with candles available and guest speakers attending on the day. We ask that everyone please wear ALL BLACK where possible, in co-ordination with our fellow protestors in the U.S.
